Cloud Computing in Libraries

Cloud computing has changed how libraries and patrons save and store their work.  As Hane states, cloud computing "Means that instead of packaged software that we buy on CD and load onto our PCs, we'll be using a variety of application in the "cloud"- the internet- and also storing our files and data there" (2008, pg. 9). Just thinking of how we now perform certain tasks on a regular basis has changed completely.  In the 6th grade I went on a trip and took 10 rolls of film worth of pictures.  Then, I went to the local CVS and had those pictures printed.  Nowadays not many people actually develop their film because we take pictures with our phones and then just upload them to social media sites such as Facebook to share them with our friends and families.  Translating that to libraries is somewhat similar.  Now librarians are not purchasing software so much as now they are purchasing a "service on the web with no software to buy, download, or install" (Hane, pg. 10).
